This quiet mountain song sees the first single release from Sharkboy in over 2 decades. In their experimental Americana and alt country songs, Sharkboy have always created atmospheric and cinematic narratives. Avy says ‘In the North West of England where I grew up ‘spell’ is a Norse word for splinter. My mother would get spells out with a needle. So originally the track was called 'Spell In Your Hand'. It’s like when someone gets completely under your skin. It can stay but not permanently. In my minds eye I see a carpenter building a ships masthead. There are a lot of hidden layers in the title and words’. The lyrical, folk tinged time-travelling nuances of the song reaches out to a lost and found love like a boatman’s call across the void.
The story of ‘Spell’ relates to love across barriers, not only of physical barriers but also the passage of time.
The simply recorded song tells of a fated and karmic love that transcends time, and the result is a quiet yet deep message about the power of love across the divide of time - traversing future, past and present moments in time. It stems from dreams and reality made whole by a meeting in the real world.

Bring me to the one I desire
Bring me to his door
Although he might not yet know me
We have met before
Although I set his picture down
Although I try to forget
When we're standing face to face
He will see his heart in place is set
Is set...
Is set...

Tell me the spell to draw him near
Sing me the song that he might hear
Though to him I need the key
He's already here with me
With me...
With me...
Here with me...
Here with me...
